AAGRA congratulates Accredited Genealogist Maureen Martin Ferris on her involvement in the publication of Tasmanian Built, a significant heritage project celebrating Tasmania’s built history.

While the book was written by the Tasmanian Heritage Council, it was published by the Glamorgan Spring Bay Historical Society Inc., where Maureen serves as both President and Research Officer. The publication marks 30 years since the Tasmanian Historic Cultural Heritage Act 1995 established the Tasmanian Heritage Register.

Tasmanian Built presents a curated selection of 100 heritage-listed places that together reflect the diversity of Tasmania’s historic buildings, landscapes and cultural sites as recorded on the Tasmanian Heritage Register in 2025.

Projects such as this rely not only on authors and researchers but also on the dedication of historical societies and their volunteers, whose work helps ensure important historical resources are professionally produced and made accessible to the wider community. Maureen’s leadership within the Glamorgan Spring Bay Historical Society demonstrates the many ways that professional genealogists contribute to preserving and sharing Australia’s history beyond individual family research.
