How wonderful, to once again, see our member, genealogist Phoebe Wilkens on Who Do You Think You Are?  In last night’s episode, Phoebe was meeting comedian Tom Gleeson as he searched for an elusive ancestor who changed his family’s name.

Phoebe was able to explain to Tom, some details of historical events at the time relating to the one of the worst race riots against Chinese miners. However, she was also able to explain social reasons that his ancestor may have changed his name, such as the breakdown of his ancestors marriage, being chased for maintenance payments and divorces not being easily obtainable.

It is always interesting trying to prove the family stories that have been passed down.

Congratulations Phoebe on being able to share knowledge and research to enlighten Tom on the historical and social possibilities that relate to family stories and name changes that occurred in his family.
