Call for Articles – Descent, December/Summer 2025 Issue

Theme: Family History Education and the Professional Genealogist
Articles due: 20 October 2025

Do you have a story to share about your path to becoming a genealogist — whether formal, informal, or accidental? Have you taught others how to research, built a genealogy business, or transitioned from hobbyist to professional? Can you provide information from your institution or organisation?

The December 2025 issue of Descent will explore family history education and the professional genealogist. We’re inviting contributions that reflect on how genealogists gain expertise, teach others, and navigate the shift from amateur to expert. We welcome:

  • Case studies from those teaching genealogy in community or academic settings
  • Reflections on mentoring, coaching, and peer learning in genealogical circles
  • Experiences with online study, conferences, courses, or societies shaping your practice
  • Discussion of business models, ethics, and challenges of working in genealogy professionally
  • Advertising from organisations and educational institutions

Submit your article proposal or draft by 20 October 2025 to [email protected]. Articles may range from 100-2000 words and should include citations where relevant with full submission guidelines available from here: https://www.sag.org.au/Our-Magazine-Descent/
