Each month we explore a different database in an Australian state.  This month we look at the Geelong and Districts database.  The index has been made available by the “Geelong & District and Bellarine Penninsula history site”.  The indexes allow searches of various files and databases including burials, directories, 1891 womens petitioners, Geelong Church records, names that appear in books and much more.

The database can be searched by index entry or index title.  Our hint is “less is more” so start by just putting in a surname in the “Index Entry” field and see what hits you get.  Each entry has a “view” more link at the end.  When you click on this it may give you more information about where to view the records or it may provide a direct link to the record.

If you family lived in this area, it is a valuable database as it combines many different lists and database in one “search” making it easier to search your family.  To view the dataset available click here.
